§408k Hunting and Fishing; General Rules and Regulations; Protection of Property; Violation of Statutes or Rules; Penalties

Summary

No one may hunt, kill, wound, or capture wild birds or animals inside the park. The only exception is killing a dangerous animal when needed to protect people. You also may not take fish from park waters unless the Secretary of the Interior sets the allowed seasons, times, and methods. The Secretary must make and publish rules to manage and protect the park, its trees, minerals, natural features, animals, birds, and fish, and to stop people from frightening or driving animals away. Having the dead body or any part of a wild bird or animal in the park is treated as proof you broke the rule. Anyone who knows or should suspect animals or fish were taken illegally and who ships or transports them can be charged. Anyone who breaks the park rules or damages park property can be charged. A person found guilty can be fined up to $500, jailed for up to six months, or both, and must pay court costs.
