§410cc–35 Powers of Commission

Summary

The Commission can hold meetings, take testimony, run hearings, and swear in witnesses when needed to do its work. If the Commission allows it, any Commissioner or staff member can carry out the same actions the Commission is allowed to do here. Under section 552a of title 5, the Commission can get information directly from other federal agencies, and the head of an agency must give that information if the Commission chair requests it. The Commission may accept gifts of money, property, or services from private or public groups and may use its own funds to get grants or other money that require the recipient to contribute. It can use the U.S. mail like other agencies and may buy, rent, or accept property and services as needed, following section 410cc–34 and without using condemnation to take land. When the Commission ends, its property and leftover funds go to the Department of the Interior.
