§410hhh–3 Great Sand Dunes National Preserve, Colorado

Summary

Creates the Great Sand Dunes National Preserve in Colorado as a unit of the National Park System, shown on the official map. Lands inside the preserve that were managed by the Secretary of Agriculture are moved to the Secretary of the Interior. The Secretary of Agriculture must change the Rio Grande National Forest boundary to remove those lands. Any parts of the preserve that were made wilderness before November 22, 2000 stay protected under the Wilderness Act and the Colorado Wilderness Act of 1993 (Public Law 103–767). After the park and preserve are set up, the Secretary of the Interior must, as soon as possible, give maps and a legal description to the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and the House Committee on Resources. Those maps and descriptions count the same as if written into the law, and the Secretary may fix clerical or typographical errors. The maps and description must be kept on file for the public at National Park Service offices. The Secretary must also finish an official boundary survey as soon as possible, subject to available funding.
