Title 16 › Chapter 1— NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › Subchapter LIX–VV— STE. GENEVIEVE NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK › § 410xxx

Last updated Apr 5, 2026|Official source

Summary

Creates the Ste. Genevieve National Historical Park in Missouri as a unit of the National Park System to protect and explain French settlement, local building styles, community layout, and frontier farming for present and future generations. The park will only be put in place after the Secretary of the Interior finds that enough land has been gathered to make a manageable park and after a written agreement says State, city, or other owners in the Historic District will manage their land to meet the park’s purposes. The park’s borders follow the map numbered 571/177,464 dated September 2021, which will be kept on file and can be corrected for clerical mistakes. The Secretary can get land inside the park or in nationally significant places in the Historic District by donation, purchase with donated or appropriated funds, or exchange; any acquired property will be added to the park boundary. The Secretary may accept the city’s visitor center land shown as “Proposed Boundary Addition” and must add it to the park if donated. Up to 20 acres near the park may be bought or donated for park offices. Defined terms (one line each): Historic District — the Ste. Genevieve Historic District National Historic Landmark. Historical Park — the new Ste. Genevieve National Historical Park. Map — “Ste. Genevieve National Historical Park Proposed Boundary Addition,” 571/177,464, September 2021. Secretary — the Secretary of the Interior. Special resource study — “Ste. Genevieve Final Special Resources Study and Environmental Assessment, Missouri,” May 2016. State — Missouri. The Secretary will run the park under this law and the usual National Park Service rules, must make a general management plan within 3 years after funds are provided to prepare it and send the plan to the House and Senate committees named, may offer tours and programs at related sites, and may make cooperative agreements to help preserve important properties. In such agreements the Federal share cannot exceed 50 percent, partners may contribute property or services for their share, changes need both parties’ agreement, and the United States can seek reimbursement if a property is used or sold in ways that go against the park’s purposes. The Secretary is not required to take on full financial responsibility for running or maintaining the Historic District.
