§450jj–6 Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Commission

Summary

Creates the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Commission and tells who is on it and how it works. The group has 20 members. They include local officials from St. Louis County, St. Clair County, the cities of East St. Louis and St. Louis, the Governors of Illinois and Missouri, the executive director and one other member of the Bi‑State Development Agency, several federal officials (Interior, HUD, Transportation, Treasury, Commerce, and the Smithsonian), plus six private citizens picked by the Secretary of the Interior from lists sent by the local mayors and governors (three from Illinois, three from Missouri). Most members serve three‑year terms. Of the six citizen appointees first named, two will serve one year, two will serve two years, and two will serve three years. If someone leaves early, their replacement serves the rest of that term. Members are unpaid but may get travel and per diem like other intermittent federal workers. The members elect their chair. The Commission can ask federal agencies for staff or services. It may accept gifts, money, property, or services. The Commission ends on August 24, 1994, unless the Secretary of the Interior extends it for up to five more years starting that day if an extension is needed to finish its work under the related statutes.
