§460u–24 Little Calumet River and Burns/portage Waterway

Summary

The Secretary may make a cooperative agreement with the Little Calumet River Basin Development Commission, the State of Indiana, or local governments to help plan, run, and provide visitor information for recreation on a specific tract in Indiana Dunes National Park (listed as tract number 09–177 11) or on state-controlled land along the Little Calumet River and Burns Waterway. The agreement can cover public facilities for boating, canoeing, fishing, hiking, biking, and similar activities. Any park work under the agreement must follow the goals of the park laws, including section 460u–6(b). The Secretary must study ways to connect the park areas divided by the Little Calumet River and Burns/Portage Waterway so park management and recreation are better coordinated. The study results must be sent to the Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs of the United States House of Representatives and the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources of the United States Senate within two years after October 29, 1986. Effective October 1, 1986, money may be appropriated as needed to do the study.
