Title 16 › Chapter 71— ATLANTIC COASTAL FISHERIES COOPERATIVE MANAGEMENT › § 5101
Supports and encourages states to work together to protect and manage Atlantic coastal fish that move across state and federal borders. These fish are important for business and recreation. Overfishing, pollution, and habitat loss have cut some fish populations. Different and changing state and federal rules have hurt efforts to conserve fish and have hurt fishermen. States are mainly responsible and cooperate through the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, and the federal government must help. If some states do not follow shared plans, it can harm the whole region. The goal is to help create, carry out, and enforce strong, shared plans to conserve and manage these coastal fish.
