Title 16 › Chapter 3— FORESTS; FOREST SERVICE; REFORESTATION; MANAGEMENT › Subchapter I— GENERAL PROVISIONS › § 559d
When acting under the authority in section 559c, the Forest Service must work with other law enforcement agencies. It must cooperate with any federal agency that has the main investigative role for a crime. The Secretary can also allow the Forest Service to work with federal, state, or local officers to investigate and enforce drug laws, including 21 U.S.C. 841 and state drug laws, for crimes that happen in or affect the National Forest System. The Forest Service must work with the Attorney General on seizures and forfeitures under 21 U.S.C. 881 for drug crimes in or affecting the National Forest System. The Secretary may let officers from other federal agencies use Forest Service powers while helping in Forest Service areas if it saves money and the other agency agrees. The Forest Service may accept law enforcement authority from other federal, state, or local agencies to join multi‑agency task forces investigating drug crimes and related offenses.
