Title 16 › CHAPTER 3C — WATER CONSERVATION › SUBCHAPTER II — CONSERVATION AND UTILIZATION PROJECTS › § 590z–4
The Secretary can make agreements with the Department of Agriculture or other federal or state agencies the President picks. These agreements can pay for studies of proposed projects and, if a project goes ahead, help with building, running, and maintaining it. If the agreement is with the Department of Agriculture, it can let the Secretary of Agriculture sign the repayment contracts required by section 590z–2, collect payments, and handle other project administration after the Secretary of the Interior says the project is ready. If the Interior Secretary already started construction and signed repayment contracts, Agriculture can take over collections and admin. The agreement can stop water delivery to anyone more than 12 months behind on payments under section 590z–3(a). Repayment and land contracts for the same land may be combined. The Secretary of Agriculture may carry out these duties.
