Title 18 › Part I— CRIMES › Chapter 55— KIDNAPPING › § 1202
It is a crime to get, keep, or get rid of money or property that was ever paid as ransom in a kidnapping if you know it was ransom. The penalty can be a fine, up to 10 years in prison, or both. It is also a crime to move kidnapping money across state or country borders, or to receive, hide, or dispose of it after it crossed a border, if the kidnapping is a state crime punishable by more than 1 year in prison and you know the money was illegally obtained. The penalty is up to 10 years, a fine, or both. “State” uses the same legal meaning found elsewhere in this title.
