It is a crime to try to trick, influence, block, or interfere with a federal auditor who is doing official work on a person, group, or program that gets more than $100,000 from the United States in one year (directly or indirectly), or on property tied to certain HUD-insured mortgages or loans under title V of the Housing Act of 1949. Conviction can bring a fine, up to 5 years in prison, or both. Federal auditor: a person paid full-time, part-time, or by contract to perform an audit or quality assurance inspection for the United States. "in any 1 year period": has the same meaning as in section 666.
