Title 18 › Part I— CRIMES › Chapter 77— PEONAGE, SLAVERY, AND TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS › § 1592
Makes it a crime to knowingly destroy, hide, take, or hold someone else’s real or fake passport, immigration papers, or any government ID when you do it: while committing certain forced‑labor or trafficking offenses (sections 1581, 1583, 1584, 1589, 1590, 1591, or 1594(a)); with the intent to commit any of those offenses; or to stop or limit a person’s movement to keep them working when the person is or was a victim of a “severe form of trafficking in persons” (as defined in section 103 of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000). If a person who is or was a trafficking victim destroys or hides ID because of their trafficking, this rule does not apply to them. Anyone who interferes with enforcing this rule faces the same penalties.
