Title 18 › Part I— CRIMES › Chapter 11— BRIBERY, GRAFT, AND CONFLICTS OF INTEREST › § 216
People who commit the offenses listed in sections 203, 204, 205, 207, 208, or 209 can be punished with jail, fines, or both. A non‑willful offense can carry up to 1 year in jail. A willful offense can carry up to 5 years. Fines follow the amounts set elsewhere in the law. The Attorney General can sue in federal court and, if the government proves the conduct is more likely than not, seek a civil penalty up to $50,000 for each violation or the amount the person received or offered for the act, whichever is greater. The Attorney General can also ask a court to order the person to stop. Seeking penalties or orders does not block other criminal, civil, or administrative actions.
