§229A Penalties

Title 18 › Part I— CRIMES › Chapter 11B— CHEMICAL WEAPONS › § 229A

Last updated Apr 5, 2026|Official source

Summary

Anyone who breaks that law may be fined, sent to jail for any number of years, or both. If their actions cause someone’s death, they may be punished by death or life in prison. The Attorney General can sue and seek up to $100,000 for each violation. That civil penalty does not stop other criminal or civil actions. A court must also make convicted people repay the United States for costs tied to seized property, and each person can be held responsible for the full amount.
