Title 18 › Part I— CRIMES › Chapter 117— TRANSPORTATION FOR ILLEGAL SEXUAL ACTIVITY AND RELATED CRIMES › § 2421
It is a crime to knowingly move someone across state lines, to another country, or into a U.S. territory or possession with the plan that they will engage in prostitution or any sexual act that is a crime. A person who does this, or tries to, can be fined, jailed for up to 10 years, or both. The U.S. Attorney General must let a state attorney general give a state or local lawyer the authority to prosecute this offense unless doing so would harm the administration of justice. If the Attorney General refuses, they must send a detailed explanation to the state attorney general within 60 days of the request.
