It makes it a crime to intentionally mail, send from a post office or letter carrier, or otherwise say or make a threat to kill, kidnap, or seriously hurt the President, the President-elect, the Vice President, the Vice President-elect, or the person next in line to be President. A person convicted can be fined, imprisoned for up to five years, or both. "President-elect" and "Vice President-elect" mean the apparent winners of the general election that choose electors under Title 3, U.S. Code, sections 1 and 2. "Other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President" means the person next in line to act as President under Title 3, U.S. Code, sections 19 and 20.
