The Board reviews films nominated for the National Film Registry and works with the Librarian to decide which films to include and how to preserve films that are culturally, historically, or artistically important. It accepts nominations from the public, film industry groups, archives, critics, and film schools, and it can nominate no more than 25 films each year. To do its work, the Board can hold hearings, take testimony, and gather evidence. The Librarian must appoint two current Board members to also serve on the National Film Preservation Foundation board.
