Title 2 › Chapter 28— ARCHITECT OF THE CAPITOL › Subchapter II— GENERAL POWERS AND DUTIES › § 1819
The Architect of the Capitol may, when Congress provides money, buy, lease, or otherwise get buildings to use as computer backup centers and related space for legislative offices. Buildings for House offices must be approved by the House Office Building Commission. Buildings for Senate offices must be approved by the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration. If other legislative offices join a House or Senate facility, the same House or Senate approval is required. Any building acquired this way becomes part of the United States Capitol Grounds and must follow the rules in sections 1922, 1961, 1966, 1967, and 1969 of this title and sections 5101 to 5107 and 5109 of title 40. If a purchased building has extra space, the Architect may rent that space to others with the same approval that allowed the purchase. This authority applies starting in fiscal year 2002 and for every fiscal year after.
