The Secretary of the Senate sets rules that let Senators, officers, and employees paid by the Secretary name a person to receive any unpaid pay when they die. If they die while serving, the Senate pay officer will send any unpaid salary or other sums to the named beneficiary. If no one was named, the money goes to the widow or widower, and if there is none, to the next of kin or legal heirs. Section 50 of the Revised Statutes does not apply to these people.
