Title 20 › Chapter 28— HIGHER EDUCATION RESOURCES AND STUDENT ASSISTANCE › Subchapter VI— INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS › Part C— Institute for International Public Policy › § 1131
The federal government will give competitive grants to create an Institute for International Public Policy. The Institute must help more people from underrepresented groups enter international work, like private volunteer groups and the U.S. foreign service. Programs must include things such as study abroad in the students’ junior year, graduate fellowships, internships, short intense academic programs (like summer institutes), or intensive language training. A grant goes to a consortium made up of one or more colleges or universities, such as those eligible for certain federal aid, tribally controlled or Native-serving schools, schools that serve many underrepresented minority students, or schools with foreign service training. Applicants must apply when and how the Department asks and explain how their work will bring in diverse viewpoints and encourage debate about world regions and international affairs. Grants last no more than 5 years. The grant recipient must provide at least one-half of the grant amount from non-Federal sources, in cash or in kind.
