§5966 National Activities

Summary

The Secretary may use funds reserved under section 5962(b)(2) to lead national safe‑school efforts. That includes work like research, program development and evaluation, data collection, public outreach, training and sharing best practices, peer review of grant applications, and grants to noncommercial telecommunications groups for national videos that teach conflict resolution and responsible decisionmaking. The Secretary must create a written safe‑schools model that includes students who face language barriers and may do this work directly or with partners, grants, or contracts. The Secretary must name the District of Columbia a national model city and give funds made available under section 5962(b)(2) each fiscal year to the local educational agency serving the District of Columbia so it can run a comprehensive program to address school and youth violence.
