Title 20 › Chapter 76— EDUCATION RESEARCH, STATISTICS, EVALUATION, INFORMATION, AND DISSEMINATION › Subchapter I— EDUCATION SCIENCES REFORM › Part C— National Center for Education Statistics › § 9546
The Statistics Center can provide copies of tables, transcripts, and other data reports and can make special reports and surveys for State and local officials, public and private groups, and individuals. It must let State education agencies, local school districts, and colleges suggest specific reports or surveys they need. If a congressional committee asks, the Center must also prepare those special reports. The Center may do joint data projects with nonprofit groups or other agencies tied to its mission, with costs split fairly by the Secretary. Most reports (except those for Congress or joint projects) can require payment of actual or estimated costs. Money collected can pay those costs, repay appropriations, or refund overpayments. The Center must share educational data with other Federal agencies that need it and must give interested parties, including parents and organizations, direct access to its data in the most useful form, including electronically when possible, under rules the Center sets.
