Title 22 › Chapter 35— ARMS CONTROL AND DISARMAMENT › Subchapter III— FUNCTIONS › § 2578
The Secretary of State must keep records for every arms control, nonproliferation, and disarmament agreement the U.S. negotiated or had in force on or after January 1, 1990. These records, classified or unclassified (drafts, notes, cables, correspondence, etc.), must fully document all communications between the parties and be kept as paper copies and on magnetic media.
