Title 22 › Chapter 38— DEPARTMENT OF STATE › § 2715
Requires the Secretary of State to quickly and fully tell the next-of-kin when a major disaster or incident abroad puts the health or safety of U.S. citizens living or traveling there at risk. The Department must use the fastest ways to notify people, including phone calls, and must also send written notice quickly. The Department must serve as a central place for up-to-date information and help, including working with foreign authorities and U.S. airlines to prepare and bring remains home and to handle personal estates under section 2715c. Consular officer: any U.S. citizen Department of State employee the Secretary of State assigns to do consular work (applies to this rule and to sections 2715b and 2715c).
