§3966 Within-class Salary Increases

Summary

Members paid under the Foreign Service Schedule must move up one salary step at the start of the first pay period after they finish 52 calendar weeks in any of steps 1–9 or 104 calendar weeks in any of steps 10–13. They do not get the step increase if a selection board under section 4002 finds their performance below their class standards. The Secretary may give an extra raise, for especially meritorious service, to any person who is getting the regular step increase, moving them to a higher step in their salary class.
