Title 22 › Chapter 94— IRAN THREAT REDUCTION AND SYRIA HUMAN RIGHTS › Subchapter II— ADDITIONAL MEASURES RELATING TO SANCTIONS AGAINST IRAN › § 8722
The President must impose at least five sanctions within 60 days after August 10, 2012, against anyone who knowingly, on or after August 10, 2012, provides underwriting, insurance, or reinsurance for the National Iranian Oil Company, the National Iranian Tanker Company, or their successors. The President can decide not to impose those sanctions if a person shows they used careful policies and controls to avoid providing such services, or if the services were only for agricultural goods, food, medicine, medical devices, or other humanitarian help for the people of Iran. The President can also refrain from sanctions if given reliable assurances that the person will stop those services by the date 120 days after August 10, 2012. Definitions for agricultural commodity, medicine, and medical device follow other federal laws. Other Iran Sanctions Act rules apply, and this does not limit the President’s power to use other laws to sanction.
