Title 25 › Chapter 7— EDUCATION OF INDIANS › § 304a
The Secretary of the Interior, using the Bureau of Indian Affairs, must study and investigate Indian education in the continental United States and Alaska. The study must look at problems faced by Indian children from non-English-speaking homes and at ways to make transfers of Indian children to public schools more orderly, fair, and acceptable. The Secretary may enter into contracts under the Johnson-O’Malley Act of June 4, 1936 (49 Stat. 1458; 25 U.S.C. 452). Within two years after money is made available, the Secretary must send Congress a full report with the study results and any recommendations. Congress may appropriate whatever sums are necessary to carry out this work.
