Title 30 › Chapter 25— SURFACE MINING CONTROL AND RECLAMATION › Subchapter III— STATE MINING AND MINERAL RESOURCES RESEARCH INSTITUTES › § 1224
The Secretary, through the Director of the United States Bureau of Mines, must run this program. After full talks with other federal agencies, the Secretary must make the rules needed to carry it out. The Secretary must give advice and help, guide and coordinate research started by the institutes, point out important research topics, and encourage cooperation among the institutes, other research groups, the Department of the Interior, and other federal agencies. On or before the first day of July in each year beginning after August 29, 1984, the Secretary must check whether each institute and State met the requirements of section 1223(a).
