Title 30 › Chapter 3A— LEASES AND PROSPECTING PERMITS › Subchapter I— GENERAL PROVISIONS › § 196
Starting in fiscal year 1992 and after, the Secretary of the Interior or a designee may make agreements with States or Indian tribes to share royalty information and help with inspections, audits, investigations, and enforcement. These agreements do not include collecting royalties, civil penalties, or other payments. If a State asks in writing, the Secretary may give the State all or part of the powers under leasing laws to carry out audits, inspections, and investigations, but not on Indian lands without the tribe’s permission.
