Title 31 › Subtitle SUBTITLE V— GENERAL ASSISTANCE ADMINISTRATION › Chapter 67— FEDERAL PAYMENTS › § 6707
A State can use a different formula to divide money among its cities and counties based on population multiplied by general tax effort or by income gaps from sections 6705(a) and (b), or a mix of both. The changed formula must still distribute the same total amount and must be applied the same way across the whole State. The State must tell the Secretary 30 days before the first payment period when the change starts. The Secretary will approve the change only if told at least 30 days before it begins.
