Title 33 › Chapter 33A— MARINE DEBRIS RESEARCH, PREVENTION, AND REDUCTION › Subchapter II— MARINE DEBRIS FOUNDATION › § 1961
Creates the Marine Debris Foundation, a charitable nonprofit that is not a U.S. government agency. The Foundation must collect and manage private gifts to help the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Marine Debris Program and related work. It must help NOAA assess, prevent, reduce, and remove marine debris and its harms to the U.S. economy, the marine environment, and navigation. It must work with state, local, Tribal, foreign, and private partners (including in U.S. waters, the high seas, and other countries’ waters), administer the Genius Prize for Save Our Seas Innovation under an agreement with the Secretary of Commerce, and support other federal actions to reduce marine debris.
