The Secretary must waive up to $200,000 of local cost-sharing for studies and projects. This applies in American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands; for any Indian tribe or tribal organization (as defined in 25 U.S.C. 5304); and for community groups made up mainly of U.S. indigenous people that help with social, cultural, or educational development. The $200,000 amount is adjusted each year for inflation. Study: includes a watershed assessment. The waiver only reduces the non‑Federal (local) share of study and project costs.
