Defines a few words used in this part of the law. Alteration means any change, rebuilding, or removal. Bridge means a lawful bridge over navigable U.S. waters, including related parts, used for railroad traffic, highway traffic, or both. Bridge owner means any government or private owner or co‑owner of a bridge, and anyone who possesses or controls it (trustees, receivers, bankruptcy trustees under title 11, or lessees). Secretary means the head of the department that runs the Coast Guard. United States, geographically, includes Territories and possessions.
