Title 38 › Part II— GENERAL BENEFITS › Chapter 19— INSURANCE › Subchapter I— NATIONAL SERVICE LIFE INSURANCE › § 1905
A five-year level premium term policy not exchanged, converted, or lapsed must be renewed for another five years at the current-age premium with no medical exam or application. Lapsed policies may be reinstated and renewed only if the insured applies within five years and follows the Secretary’s rules. If the insured is shown to be totally disabled at term end and would otherwise qualify for continued protection, the policy is automatically renewed for five more years at the current-age rate unless the insured chose another plan.
