Defines the important words used in this chapter so people know what each term means. Emergency situation — has the meaning given in section 3601 of this title. Employment handicap — a problem mainly caused by a disability listed in section 3102(1)(A) that makes it hard for a veteran to prepare for, get, or keep a job that fits their skills and interests. Independence in daily living — the ability of a veteran to live and function in family and community life without help, or with less help from others. Program of education — defined by section 3452(b) of this title. Program of independent living services and assistance — the services and help this chapter provides to help a veteran reach independence in daily life, such as counseling, medical, social, psychological, and educational services the Secretary finds needed. Rehabilitated to the point of employability — made able to work in a job for which a vocational rehab program was given. Rehabilitation program — either a vocational rehab program or an independent living program under section 3120 when a job goal is not now reasonably feasible. Serious employment handicap — a major work-related impairment largely due to a service-connected disability rated 10 percent or more. Vocational goal — a paid job that fits a veteran’s abilities, aptitudes, and interests. Vocational rehabilitation program — the services and assistance in this chapter used to test if a job goal is feasible, to improve a veteran’s ability to take part in a rehab program, to reach independence in daily living, and to help the veteran become and stay employable.
