Title 38 › Part III— READJUSTMENT AND RELATED BENEFITS › Chapter 32— POST-VIETNAM ERA VETERANS’ EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE › Subchapter III— ENTITLEMENT; DURATION › § 3233
If you are in a full‑time apprenticeship or on‑the‑job training, your monthly benefit is cut. For the first six months you get 75% of your usual monthly amount. For the next six months you get 55%. After the first 12 months you get 35%. If you do not finish 120 hours of training in a month, your pay is reduced by the fraction of hours you did divided by 120. Before dividing, round your hours to the nearest eight hours. Each month you are paid uses up part of your total months of benefits. A month paid at 75% uses 0.75 of a month of benefit time. A month at 55% uses 0.55 of a month. A month at 35% uses 0.35 of a month. If your monthly pay is cut because you worked fewer than 120 hours, the amount of benefit time used is cut by the same fraction.
