Title 38 › Part I— GENERAL PROVISIONS › Chapter 5— AUTHORITY AND DUTIES OF THE SECRETARY › Subchapter II— SPECIFIED FUNCTIONS › § 531
Department buildings, structures, and major parts of them can only be named for the place where they sit, unless another law allows a different name or the Secretary moves a name to another Department property. The Secretary may move a name that was set by law only if the old site no longer provides benefits or services, the new site is similar in type and purpose, the new site has a different address but is inside the same town/city/local area named in the law, and the Secretary notifies the Senate and House Veterans’ Affairs committees and every member of Congress from that State at least 30 days before the move. After the move, any law or record that named the old site is treated as naming the new site. “Covered property” means a Department facility, structure, real property, or a major part like a wing or floor.
