Title 38 › Part I— GENERAL PROVISIONS › Chapter 9— SECURITY AND LAW ENFORCEMENT ON PROPERTY UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE DEPARTMENT › § 903
The Secretary can give a uniform allowance to Department police officers who must wear a uniform for work. The amount is the smaller of the current Office of Personnel Management allowance or the Department’s survey-based estimated or actual cost, and no officer may get more than that in a fiscal year. Officers appointed on or after October 1, 2010 get it at hire; others get it on request. If an officer resigns within one year, they must repay a portion based on months worked during the twelve‑month period after the start date or after the request. An officer may not receive this allowance and the one under section 5901 of title 5 in the same fiscal year.
