Title 42 › Chapter 134— ENERGY POLICY › Subchapter II— ALTERNATIVE FUELS—NON-FEDERAL PROGRAMS › § 13232
The Federal Trade Commission must, after talking with the Secretary, the EPA Administrator, and the Secretary of Transportation, publish a proposed rule within 18 months after October 24, 1992. The rule must create uniform labels for alternative fuels and alternative-fueled vehicles that give clear, simple cost and benefit information so consumers can compare choices. Labels should be simple and can be combined with other consumer labels when appropriate. The FTC must consider how hard it is to make and update cost/benefit data (like lead time, costs, and how often things change) and must get input from industry, consumer groups, and federal and state agencies. The FTC must issue a final rule within 1 year after the proposed notice and update the rule regularly. The Secretary must provide technical help to the FTC and coordinate this work with activities under section 13231.
