Title 42 › Chapter 148— WINDSTORM IMPACT REDUCTION › § 15701
Requires the federal government to help reduce harm from hurricanes, tropical storms, tornadoes, and severe thunderstorms. These storms can kill people, cause injuries, destroy homes and businesses, and disrupt communities. All States and regions are at risk. The country loses several billion dollars each year, and building more in high-risk areas has made things worse. Damage can be cut by cheaper, smarter building methods; local, State, and national harm-reduction programs; better data and forecasts; engineering and weather research and using the results; and public education. Federal efforts must have agencies working together and include advice from citizens, universities, businesses, and other non‑Federal groups.
