Summary

Agencies must, when available, use health IT systems and products that follow the standards and implementation specifications adopted under section 300jj–14 when they build, buy, or upgrade systems that directly exchange identifiable health information with other agencies or with non‑Federal parties. For any standard or implementation specification adopted under section 300jj–14, the President must make sure federal programs that broadly collect and submit health information follow that standard within three years of its adoption. The OMB Director, with the HHS Secretary, defines "agency," and the definitions in section 300jj apply here.
