The Director must give the relevant authorizing and appropriations committees of Congress an annual report about projects the Directorate funded the previous year. Within 1 year after August 9, 2022, the Director must also send a roadmap that explains the strategic vision the Directorate will use to guide investment decisions for the next 3 years. Within 1 year after August 9, 2022, and every 3 years after that, the Director must submit to Congress a 5-year strategic plan that shows how the Foundation will increase funding for research and education for people underrepresented in STEM and for certain geographic areas, and a description of the Directorate’s planned activities to secure federally funded science and technology under section 1746 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020 (Public Law 116–92; 42 U.S.C. 6601 note), section 6605 of this title, part D of this subchapter, and subtitle E of title VI. Within 24 months after the Directorate is established, the Director must also report to Congress on using alternative ways to select award recipients and distribute funding versus the traditional peer review process.
