Anyone who, legally or not, has or is trusted with documents or other materials that include Restricted Data must not share them, try to share them, or agree with others to share them. If someone shares to harm the United States or to help a foreign nation, they can be punished by life imprisonment, a prison term of years, a fine up to $100,000, or both. If they share while having reason to believe the data will be used to harm the United States or help a foreign nation, the penalty is up to 10 years in prison, a fine up to $50,000, or both.
