Title 42 › Chapter 6A— PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE › Subchapter II— GENERAL POWERS AND DUTIES › Part A— Research and Investigations › § 242t
The CDC can work with States to collect and report information about adverse childhood experiences using the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System, and other public health surveys. This data collection can happen every two years. The CDC must encourage participating States to include rural areas so those places are represented reliably. If an Indian Tribe (as defined in federal law) asks in writing, the CDC may give technical help to that Tribe to collect and report the same data. The law authorizes $9,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2026 through 2030 to support this work.
