Creates three subcommittees inside the Institute’s advisory council for the areas of diabetes and endocrine/metabolic diseases, digestive diseases and nutrition, and kidney, urologic, and hematologic diseases. Each subcommittee will be made up of advisory council members who are medical experts in those diseases and members who are leaders in education and public affairs. The subcommittees can review grant and training project applications sent to the Institute director about those diseases and must tell the advisory council which applications and contracts best fit the Institute’s goals. They must also review the Institute’s programs in those areas and recommend any administrative changes they think are needed.
