The Secretary may give grants to accredited public health schools and to other accredited public or nonprofit institutions to fund traineeships. The Secretary decides the amount of each grant. Traineeships must pay tuition and fees and can include stipends and allowances for travel, living, or dependents. They are for students studying in fields with severe worker shortages, such as epidemiology, environmental health, biostatistics, toxicology, nutrition, and maternal and child health.
