Title 42 › CHAPTER 55 — NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY › SUBCHAPTER I — POLICIES AND GOALS › § 4336f
Project sponsors who want to pay for an environmental assessment (EA) or environmental impact statement (EIS) must send the Council on Environmental Quality a short project description and say whether they plan to prepare the EA or EIS under section 4336a(f). The Council must tell the sponsor the fee amount within 15 days of getting that information. The sponsor can pay after getting the notice. If a fee is paid, an EA must be finished within 180 days after payment, and an EIS must be finished within 1 year after the notice of intent is published. The fee is 125 percent of the expected cost to prepare the EA or EIS. If the sponsor will prepare or supervise the review under section 4336a(f), the fee is 125 percent of the expected cost to supervise and/or prepare it.
