§4362 Interagency Cooperation on Prevention of Environmental Cancer and Heart and Lung Disease

Summary

A Task Force on Environmental Cancer and Heart and Lung Disease must be set up within three months after August 7, 1977. It must include representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Cancer Institute, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, and the National Institute on Environmental Health Sciences, and it must be chaired by the Administrator (or the Administrator’s delegate). The Task Force must propose a broad research plan to find and measure how pollution is linked to cancer and heart and lung disease in people. It must suggest ways to lower or remove those risks, recommend research and other steps to prevent or reduce these diseases, coordinate research and encourage cooperation among the EPA, the Department of Health and Human Services, and other agencies, and report to Congress within one year after August 7, 1977, and every year after that on problems and progress.
