§5877 Reports to President for Submission to Congress

Summary

The Administrator must send a report to the President, for transmission to Congress, soon after each fiscal year ends. The report must say the agency’s short-term and long-term goals, priorities, and plans, and explain how much progress was made toward those goals and toward running the agency better and coordinating its work. During the first year of the agency, the Administrator and the Secretary of Defense must study whether the Administrator’s duties about military uses and restricted data should be moved to the Department of Defense or other agencies, and within one year after the Administrator first takes office they must send a joint report to the President for Congress with their analysis, options, and recommendations. The Commission must also send a yearly report to the President for submission to Congress soon after each fiscal year ends. That report must state the Commission’s short- and long-term goals and plans about the benefits, costs, and risks of commercial nuclear power, and must describe its work and findings on safe plant design, investigating problems and defects, protecting special nuclear materials, handling thefts and contingency plans, licensing for permanent disposal of high-level radioactive waste, and guarding the public from low-level radioactive emissions.
