Title 42 › CHAPTER 77 — ENERGY CONSERVATION › SUBCHAPTER III — IMPROVING ENERGY EFFICIENCY › Part E — Energy Conservation Program for Schools and Hospitals › § 6371b
Governors can apply to the Secretary for grants to pay for energy checks of school and hospital buildings after the Secretary issues guidelines under section 6371a(a). The Secretary may give grants to states to do preliminary energy checks and full energy audits under those guidelines. If a State does not do preliminary checks within two years after November 9, 1978, the Secretary may do them instead. If a State does the audits on its own and they meet or are approved under the Secretary’s guidelines, the money set aside for audits goes into the State’s energy conservation projects as extra funds. Federal money (including other Federal sources) normally cannot pay more than 50% of any audit cost. At a Governor’s request, the Secretary may fund up to 100% of audit costs, subject to the rules in section 6371g(a)(3).
